Lurlene McDaniel sure knows how to yank on the heartstrings! After reading the first book in the trilogy I was hooked. I wanted to see what happened with Ethan and Leah.
With Ethan being Amish and Leah being English there were so many differences but they knew they cared for each other. Rebekah brought them together through her childlike ways, not seeing the differences as much as others would. At the beginning of summer when Leah went to work near the Longacre farm I wasn't sure if things would go very well with Ethan's family. Yes, the children loved and accepted Leah but Mr. Longacre was wary of her. Ethan "went against" everyone by being with Leah and participating in her English ways. He was torn between his world and hers and I believe he wanted to be a part of both.
As the book went on I had a feeling Leah's cancer would return since she was having pain in her knee and was having to have a checkup I never expected anything to happen to Rebekah.
